Meet Sean Boland
Alumni Spotlight
Meet Sean Boland; Gordon Alumnus and Head Athletic Trainer for Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, Georgia.
Boland attended Gordon from 2003 to 2005 on a soccer scholarship and majored in health and physical education. Now, he enjoys a career in sports medicine and athletic training, which he says combines his interests well. He is a certified athletic trainer and a CPR instructor, and he has 12 years of sports medicine experience working with Division 1 college baseball teams.
While at Gordon, Boland most enjoyed connecting with the people here. He says that, at the time, all the dorms were very close to each other and, because of the students’ diversity, he learned a lot about other cultures. When asked what clubs, organizations and sports he was involved in, he simply says “everything.” He was in all the intramural sports for which he could sign up, he was a resident assistant in Connell Hall, and he wrote tickets on campus for parking violations. However, he remembers that the first time he did not show up to class the professor called his coach. He knew then that, because of Gordon’s small class sizes, he was still going to be kept accountable for his academic performance too.
Overall, Boland says that his two years at Gordon were wonderful. It allowed him to get established academically while saving money, and even over 15 years later, he still keeps in touch with the people he met here. His message to prospective students: “Go to Gordon. Make the most of your time there. Utilize the small size to get your academic career established.” According to him, Gordon is an excellent launching pad for bigger and better things.
Currently, Boland lives in Forsyth, Georgia. He is married to Gordon alumna Dr. Kellis Boland, and they have two sons, Caleb (10) and Colin (6). When he is not at work, he enjoys playing in the yard with his children and working around his farm where he keeps sheep and chickens.
