Meet Alison Boddie

Staff Spotlight

Meet Alison Boddie, LAPC; a Mental Health Counselor here at Gordon State College.

Boddie is a Gordon State College and Clayton State University alumna who provides mental health counseling as well as outreach and programming for students and faculty. She has worked at most levels of care in the mental health field which she says gives her confidence in providing referrals and advocating for students. Two years ago, Boddie joined Highlander Nation and tells us that she loves the supportive community of students, faculty and staff that she found here.

Some of the areas Boddie finds most interesting in her field are trauma-informed treatment, reducing mental health stigma and helping individuals help themselves. At Gordon, her work intersects with these areas of interest, enabling her to assist others and create programs to reduce mental health stigma and boost accessibility. However, her proudest moments by far are seeing students that she treated and partnered with succeed. Through her work, she hopes students gain a sense of empowerment, understanding that they are capable and incredible and that they will continue adding value to their lives and to the world around them.

Ultimately, through her career, Boddie achieved her childhood goal of being a “helper.” She also says it means the world to be part of the Highlander community, where she feels capable of making an impact with her skill set. When she is not working, however, she enjoys reading, crafting, hiking, attending live music events and collecting fall and Halloween décor.
