Meet Rhonda Sullivan

Alumni Spotlight

Meet Rhonda Sullivan; Alumni Advisory Board member and Secretary at Monroe County Schools' Transportation Office.

Sullivan’s journey at Gordon State College began in 1988. When a member of her family, Kenneth J. Davis, noticed that she had no direction after high school, he drove her and her mother to Gordon to meet with an admissions counselor. She says that she is forever grateful to Davis because that one act led to her obtaining an associate’s degree.

One of Sullivan’s favorite classes during her years at Gordon was her history class. She explains that her professor taught with enthusiasm and could transport students to another era when he lectured, earning the class a position as one of her favorites. On the other hand, her non-academic highlights at Gordon included attending a dance at the gym. She remarks that it felt like going to prom, but on the college level.

After graduating in 1990, Sullivan began working for the Monroe County School System as a paraprofessional, where she has proudly been for twenty-five years. Now, she works in the Transportation Department while managing payroll and field trips.

According to Sullivan, Gordon’s high academic standards, low cost, location, and safety make it an ideal choice for prospective students. She adds that, for parents, sending their child to Gordon is a great investment in their child’s professional, economic, and social growth.
