Athletics offer a variety of benefits and enhancements both at the academic and student engagement levels. Gordon State College offers both Intercollegiate and Club Sports for students interested in athletic competition.

Intercollegiate Sports are regulated by the National Junior Athletic Association (NJCAA) and have varsity status.  The NJCAA recognizes the diverse nature of its membership, providing at all times a consistent and inclusive governance structure that provides opportunities for all stakeholders and emphasizes the academic, athletic, and community involvement goals for all student-athletes. Intercollegiate teams are highly competitive and require a significant time commitment from the athletes.

Club Sports are not regulated by any intercollegiate association such as the NJCAA and do not have varsity status. Although club sports may not be as competitive as intercollegiate sports, they offer college athletes the ability to play at a competitive level without the time commitment generally required for a sport governed by the NJCAA. Since club sports consist of teams that are not affiliated with an intercollegiate association, these teams are supported by student activities, club advisors, student leaders, volunteers, and may be funded by participants through club fees.
