Meet Maelee Hendrix
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Meet Maelee Hendrix, a management and administration major from Pike County, GA.
A Family Tradition of Learning
For Maelee Hendrix, Gordon State College feels like home. Following in the footsteps of her three older siblings, Maelee began her journey at Gordon State in Fall 2024. “I chose GSC because it offered both financial benefits and a strong education,” she said. “I saw firsthand the valuable lessons my siblings gained, and their experiences inspired me to walk the same path.”
Academic Highlights
Maelee is already making her mark at GSC. She finished her freshman year with a 4.0 GPA and is proud of the friendships she’s built along the way. Her favorite classes so far include English Composition II with Dr. David Janssen and Introduction to Psychology with Dr. Barry Kicklighter.
“The professors made those classes stand out,” she said. “Their passion for teaching and creativity in the classroom made me love learning even more.”
While Principles of Microeconomics with Dr. Prathibha Joshi-Beck challenged her, Maelee worked hard and succeeded, finishing with an A. She credits Dr. Joshi’s encouragement (and even mid-class snacks) with making a tough subject enjoyable.
Memorable Moments
From singing at an event honoring freshmen achievers to seeing Dr. Kicklighter bring his dog Winnie to class, Maelee has cherished both academic and personal memories at Gordon State. “Those small moments stick with you and remind you why this campus is so special,” she said.
Involvement on Campus and Beyond
Beyond the classroom, Maelee is involved with the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and serves as a Marketing Intern at GSC, gaining hands-on experience in her chosen field. She also enjoys theatre, singing in church, and leading worship.
Her favorite family tradition is “Hendrix Family Fun Days,” monthly gatherings organized by her mom. “It’s something I look forward to, no matter how busy life gets,” Maelee said.
Looking Ahead
After graduation, Maelee plans to pursue a career in marketing, especially digital content creation, where she can combine creativity with strategy. On a personal note, she also looks forward to marrying her high school sweetheart and starting a family.
Highlander Pride
For Maelee, being part of Highlander Nation is about connection and shared purpose. “Being a Highlander means being surrounded by people from many different backgrounds, all working toward a common goal, our futures,” she said. “Even though we’re all unique, we’re united by the drive to pursue an education and build a brighter future.”
Her advice for prospective students is simple: “Apply to Gordon State College without hesitation. This is a place that truly cares about its students, with a leadership team that supports them every step of the way. Any prospective student would be lucky to be part of such a welcoming and student-centered college.”
