General Education Committee

Purpose

The purpose of the General Education Committee shall be to oversee the assessment of the core curriculum.

Composition

  1. Dean of the School of Business & Professional Studies
  2. Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness
  3. One faculty member with at least one year of full-time teaching experience from each of the following academic units:  Natural Sciences;  Business and Public Service;  History and Political Science; Humanities;  Fine Arts;  Mathematics, Computer Science, and Engineering
  4. Faculty Senator (1)
  5. Dean of Nursing, Health, and STEM
  6. Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (non-voting)

Members will serve two-year terms.

Duties

The General Education Committee shall work with the Faculty Senate Assessment Committee in achieving Gordon State College academic assessment and review processes in accordance with established timelines.

    • I - Institutional Options (Institution) - Fire Coordinator or Colloquia Coordinator
    • M - Mathematics Area A and Quantitative Skills (Mathematics) - MATH 1XXX Teaching Faculty Member: Bernard Anderson
    • - Political Science and US History (Citizenship) - each Discipline proposes a Representative and FUll Senate Selects GA member: Jeremy Richards
    • A - Arts, Humanties and Ethics (Humanities): 
    • C - Communication in writing (Writing) - ENGL1101 and/or 1102 Teaching Faculty member: Ed Whitelock
    • T - Technology, Mathematics and Sciences (STEM) - Natural Sciences Faculty member: Thomas Hancock
    • S - Social Sciences (Social Science) - Not to include discipline represented on "P" above: Christy Flatt
