About the Highlander Scholars Program

The Highlander Scholars Program (HSP) is a competitive, fully funded partnership between Gordon State College (GSC) and Georgia Tech (GT) that creates a clear and affordable pathway for aspiring engineers. Established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2022, this program enables talented students—especially those within GSC’s service district—to begin their engineering studies at Gordon State College before transferring to Georgia Tech.

Designed for first-time college students, the program covers tuition, housing, meals, textbooks, and fees for two academic years and a summer bridge experience. Scholars live together in a dedicated Living-Learning Community, take part in field experiences and professional development activities, and receive personalized academic support throughout their journey.

In their second year, Highlander Scholars give back to the GSC community by serving as peer tutors for five hours each week, reinforcing their academic mastery while developing leadership and communication skills.

Upon completing the two-year curriculum—including an Associate of Science in Engineering—students who meet program standards receive preferred admission to Georgia Tech’s engineering programs.

The Highlander Scholars Program removes financial barriers, builds community, and empowers students from across middle and south Georgia to engineer a better future for themselves—and for our state.
