Commencement Ceremonies

Spring 2021 Commencement will be held on Friday, May 14, at Summers Field Park located on Houston Street in Barnesville. There will be two ceremonies to allow for social distancing.

The School of Business, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The School of Education, Mathematics, and Applied Sciences and the School of Nursing, Health, and Natural Sciences ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m.


Keynote Speaker for the School of Business, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences Ceremony

Mr. Dan White

Mr. White is a graduate of Yatesville High School (9 miles south of Gordon’s campus) and Georgia Tech.  He has seen the amazing transformation of Gordon State College over a period of decades. Working as a developer of affordable, energy-efficient housing, Mr. White co-founded Passive Solar Design & Construction, Inc. in 1984 and serves as its Chief Financial Officer.

In addition to, and complementing his commercial activities, Mr. White co-founded The Rural Library Project, Inc. - a non-profit that assists small rural towns in creating or improving public libraries.

Mr. White recently served as Executive Producer for the documentary “A President in our Midst - FDR in Georgia” that will air on Georgia Public Broadcasting in September 2021.  Mr. White also serves as a trustee of the Gordon State College Foundation where he has endowed 10 scholarships, an endowed lecture series, and a performing arts endowment.

Mr. White serves on the FDR Warm Springs Memorial Advisory Committee.

Keynote Speaker for the School of Education, Math, and Applied Sciences and School of Nursing, Health, and Natural Sciences

Mr. Justin M. Gunnels

Mr. Gunnels completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in History-Secondary Education from Gordon State College in 2015. He also earned a Master of Curriculum and Instruction degree from Columbus State University and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University. Mr. Gunnels is currently completing work towards a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Samford University.

While attending Gordon State College, Mr. Gunnels served as the Charter President of the Rotaract Club, a division of Rotary International. He also served on the Gordon State College Alumni Board from 2018 until 2020.

He currently serves as a Teacher in the Lamar County School System, where he was recognized as the Lamar County Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2019. He will begin serving as the Assistant Principal at Lamar County Elementary School for the 2021-2022 school year. Mr. Gunnels also works at Foothills Charter High School at their Al Burruss State Prison campus. He is certified in Educational Leadership-Tier II, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, History-Economics, Language Arts, and Gifted Education.

Mr. Gunnels is a proud native of Central Georgia. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and reading. Mr. Gunnels said, “I believe education is the balance wheel of society. The importance of education cannot be overstated in today’s world.”  He is a strong believer that learning is a lifelong endeavor - Go Highlanders!

Apply to Graduate

Any student who plans to graduate from Gordon State College is required to complete the Online Graduation Application process in Banner Web (link found in bottom footer of this page). Step by step instructions for the Online Graduation Application process can be accessed here. All applications will be reviewed by the Gordon State College Registrar's Office to insure that all requirements for graduation are or will be satisfied by the anticipated date of graduation.

Students must submit their Online Graduation Applications no later than the official mid-term date of the semester prior to the anticipated semester of graduation. A student who plans to graduate at the end of the Spring Semester, for example, is required to submit an online application for graduation no later than the mid-term date of the previous Fall Semester.

Register to Walk

If you plan to walk in the procession, you must login to the Graduation Ceremony Registration System to verify whether or not you will be participating in the graduation ceremony. Here you will also verify how your name should appear on your diploma and on the graduation program.

Please note: You must participate in the Gordon State College Graduation Ceremony in order to receive a Gordon State College diploma cover with your diploma.

Graduation Survey

Please tell us about your experience with your program of study and your most recent (program) Academic Advisor at Gordon. The survey will be emailed to eligible graduates during the weeks before graduation.
