Application and Admission Procedure Criteria

Admission to the ASN program is a competitive process. To be considered, applicants must meet the Prerequisite Core Requirement as well as meet all general ASN admission requirements as outlined.  Admissions are extremely competitive. As such, not all individuals who meet the admission requirements may be admitted.

The Gordon State College ASN Nursing Program is 3 years in length IF you include the time required to complete the core classes.

Application for the Spring 2023 ASN Nursing program will be available below beginning July 1, 2022 - August 2, 2022.

The official means of communication is Gordon State College e-mail. Please check your GSC e-mail frequently for correspondence with the Nursing department about your nursing application. 

The timeline for the application process is as follows:

  • Application due by August 2nd.
  • If requirements are met, Kaplan will be taken in August. Instructions for scheduling will be sent to your Gordon email sometime in August. 
  • Admissions committee will begin reviewing application packets the first of September.
  • Decisions will be made by midterm, October 1, 2022.

***  The admissions process is tedious and lengthy. Please do not call or email the Nursing office inquiring about your application. Applicants will be notified by their GORDON email. ***

Prerequisite Core Classes:

  • Quantitative Skills and Reasoning or College Algebra
  • Anatomy/Physiology I
  • Anatomy/Physiology II
  • English Composition I
  • English Composition II
  • Human Growth & Development
  • Microbiology with lab
  • American History I or II
  • approved Humanities Elective (3 hr.)

**All core classes must be passed with a grade of C or better. Biology 2210, 2211, and 2250 must be less than 5 years old upon entry into the program. For Spring 2023 cohort, Sciences must be Spring 2018 to current.

General ASN Admission Requirements:

  • Application for the General ASN admission program is accepted during the summer semester only. Application for admittance into the Spring 2023 ASN program will be available online beginning July 1, 2022 - August 2, 2022.
  • Applicants applying for admission consideration to the Spring 2023 ASN program must receive a Letter of  Acceptance into Gordon State College by June 30, 2022.
  • All official academic transcripts for each college/university/technical school attended, must be sent to GSC's Admission office at time of admission application. The applicant is responsible for assuring that the college has received the most recent transcripts in order to evaluate the student's application. 
  • Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5 at the time of applying.
  • Minimum Science/Math GPA of 2.75 at the time of applying. 
  • Exemption from or completion of all Learning Support Classes.
  • Department recommends completing 75-80% of Core Curriculum prior to applying to the ASN program.
  • BIOL 2210K, 2211K, and 2250K must be LESS than 5 years old. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Spring 2023 cohort sciences must be Spring 2018 to current.
  • Upon receipt of a completed online nursing application, eligible students will be e-mailed specific instructions to schedule a date to take the Kaplan Nursing Entrance Assessment Test. 
  • Submission of a recommendation form completed by a professor, instructor, and/or employer before the last day of the application period. This form will be available on the website with the admission application during the application period. 
  • Not failed two (2) or more nursing courses in any nursing program with a grade of "D" including an LPN program. 
  • Not failed any nursing course with a grade of "F" in any nursing program, including an LPN program.
  • Able to meet Technical Standards.

Application Contents:

  • Completed online nursing application.
  • Completed recommendation form emailed to nursing@gordonstate.edu before the application deadline. 
  • Copy of all licenses/certifications (LPN, CNA, EMT,etc.) if applicable sent to nursing@gordonstate.edu.
  • If previously was admitted to an RN OR LPN program and was not successful in completing the program you must submit (2) completed reference forms. (located FORMS + LINKS).

**Incomplete/late applications will not be accepted for consideration.

Graduation Requirements:

  1. Complete the prescribed curriculum with a minimum 2.0 grade point average. A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) is required for each core course and for each nursing course in the curriculum. A minimum 2.0 Gordon State and nursing program GPA is needed to graduate.
  2. Complete all nursing courses at Gordon State and be registered at the College during the semester that all graduation requirements are satisfied.
  3. Complete the Constitution and history requirements described in Area E as required by the State of  Georgia.
