Proctoring Options for Online Courses
Some Gordon State College online courses may require a proctored examination. In a proctored exam, someone monitors the student as he/she completes the exam. Gordon State has two options: One is using a service for electronic monitoring while the other involves live monitoring via a testing center.
Since Gordon State College does not charge an e-tuition, students are required to pay for the proctoring service (for either option). The price often depends on the length of the exam.
Option 1: Live Proctoring
ProctorU Live+
ProctorU Live+ is an electronic proctoring system that allows students to complete their exams from any location. Please note that ProctorU Live+ cannot be used with a chromebook. Students must use a desktop or laptop (no mobile devices). A proctor joins the student in the online environment and is live with the student as he/she completes the exam. In order to use ProctorU, the student will need:
- desktop or laptop computer (tablets, chromebooks, smartphones are not sufficient)
- webcam
- speakers
- Internet access
- the Guardian Browser installed, which can be downloaded here
Testing Centers
Students have the ability to complete their proctored exam in a testing center. Gordon State College has a testing center on the second floor of the Student Center. Other campuses also have testing centers or provide proctoring services.
Option 2: Non-Live Proctoring
Note: Non-Live Proctoring options allow for the use of Chromebooks. Proctorio does require that the student have access to download extensions on either Chrome or Firefox browser.
Proctorio
Proctorio is a service that allows students to complete their D2L quiz while a recording is made of the session (this includes the screen and the webcam). The video is then reviewed by the Proctorio team and incidents are flagged for the instructor to review.
