The mission of Gordon State College Counseling Services is to provide brief, short-term, solution focused counseling.
Counseling Services provides personal counseling for currently enrolled students. Services are provided on the main campus through the Counseling Center open Monday-Friday. Counseling services are provided to students at satellite campuses on an as needed basis. All counseling services are provided free of charge. When more long-term or specialized services are required to meet your needs, referral sources within the local community will be identified and you will be referred to them to assist you. A list of community resources for Barnesville and surrounding areas is available
Accessibility Services (formerly Disability Services) is located within the Counseling Services Office. The Accessibility Services office promotes student learning and enhances the development of all qualified students with disabilities. Academic accommodations for approved students are coordinated through Accessibility Services. Services and accommodations include providing accommodation letters for students to provide to faculty, volunteer note takers, assistive technology, texts in alternative format, including braille; captioning services, priority registration and adaptive furniture in classrooms.
Any student currently enrolled at Gordon State College may register their disability by calling Accessibility Services at 678-359-5585 to schedule an appointment to meet with the Director of Accessibility Services. The Director of Accessibility Services will meet with students at the Henry County campus on an as needed basis. Students with hearing impairments may contact the Director by email to schedule an online session, aliciad@gordonstate.edu.
Accommodations are provided to students who meet the requirements of having a qualified disability according to The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Student directions for accommodations are available through accessing the Guidelines for Disability Accommodations, a step by step guide to assist students with making the first call to providing faculty members with accommodation letters.
