Dr. Prathibha Joshi-Beck, Gordon State College professor of business and economics was selected to represent Highlander Nation in the 2024 Governor's Teaching Fellow (GTF) program at the University of Georgia at the end of the spring semester.

The GTF program, themed “Artificial Intelligence in the Holistic Classroom,” explored tools, strategies, and ethical practices for integrating AI into course instruction, aiming to equip students with the skills to use AI effectively and responsibly. The symposium featured faculty development sessions led by experts, instructional design activities, peer collaboration, and independent study tailored to each participant's needs and interests.

“It was one of most enriching experiences for me as it helped me to be part of the future landscape of higher education,” Joshi-Beck said. “The GTF program empowered me with the knowledge and skills of AI, which I can now apply in my classroom to benefit my students and others.”

Joshi-Beck was one of 16 faculty members selected from institutions across the state through a highly competitive application process. The GTF program, an outreach initiative of the Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education at UGA, was established in 1995 by then-Governor Zell Miller to enhance the quality of instruction in Georgia's colleges and universities. The program aims to advance faculty members to the forefront of instructional practice by offering expanded opportunities for developing essential teaching skills.

Building on her achievements in the GTF program, Joshi-Beck was honored this August at an all-campus gathering at GSC, where she received the GSC Service Award for 20 years of dedication and the GSC Foundation Faculty and Staff Award.

In addition to her two decades of experience in teaching and advising students at GSC, Joshi-Beck has led numerous successful projects for the college, including helping build four-year programs, chairing and serving on various committees, contributing to research in international macroeconomics, environmental economics, and education, and sharing her insights at conferences and in academic journals.
