Gordon Gamers Kick Off Fall Esports Season with NJCAAE Media Week

Gordon State College’s esports team, the Gordon Gamers (GG), is kicking off the fall season with Media Week. The team is joining NJCAAE member institutions nationwide to spotlight players and build momentum ahead of competition beginning Sept. 22.

Media Week, held Sept. 14–20, brings NJCAAE member schools together to highlight their esports programs before the new season. Institutions share player cards, team photos, interviews, coach insights, practice highlights and hype reels across social media to generate excitement.

“We have a lot of players who are excited to compete and see what we do this season,” said Rosser Jackson, GG captain. “We have a lot of new competitors too. Just know, we’re ready!”

Gordon State’s esports program entered NJCAAE competition in fall 2024 and made an immediate impact with a playoff appearance in its first season. Madden standout Devonte Gordon, a Nexus degree film production major from Coweta County, secured a third-place regional finish, setting the tone for the program’s competitive spirit. Now entering its second year, the GG team is fielding an 11-player roster for fall 2025 with teams competing in Fortnite, Madden, Marvel Rivals and Rocket League.

Beyond competition, GSC connects esports with academics through its Nexus degree in film production. The program includes Georgia Film Academy coursework and builds skills in on-set production, industry-standard equipment and media workflows. This link between academics and esports helps students explore careers in broadcasting, streaming, content creation and digital media.

“I believe that we have recruited some great talent for this season. Plus, we will be livestreaming our matches for the first time since the team’s inception,” said David Grau, GG coach. “I believe this will be our best season yet!”

Gordon Gamers was created in 2023 after students expressed interest in esports. Academic advisor Joba Duke and Grau laid the foundation for an official program, researching competitive gaming, building the team’s structure and recruiting members during summer orientation sessions.

“We’re proud of how GSC Esports has become a place where students can challenge themselves, support one another and represent our college with pride,” Duke said.

The NJCAAE National Office will amplify Media Week efforts by reposting content, creating additional materials and helping schools find new ways to engage their audiences.
