Mandatory Hazing Reports and Disclosures
In accordance with Georgia House Bill 1080 (the "Max Gruver Act"), the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, and Gordon State College’s Student Code of Conduct, Gordon State College strictly prohibits hazing in all forms.
Definition of Hazing
Hazing means any intentional, knowing, or reckless act committed by a person (whether individually or in concert with other persons) against another person or persons regardless of the willingness of such other person or persons to participate, that—
- is committed in the course of an initiation into, an affiliation or connection with, the maintenance of membership in, or any other condition or precondition connected to a student organization or school organization; and
- causes or creates a risk, above the reasonable risk encountered in the course of participation in institution or organization activities (such as the physical preparation necessary for participation in an athletic team), of physical or psychological injury including—
- whipping, beating, striking, electronic shocking, placing of a harmful substance on someone’s body, or similar activity;
- causing, coercing, or otherwise inducing sleep deprivation, exposure to the elements, confinement in a small space, extreme calisthenics, or other similar activity;
- causing, coercing, or otherwise inducing another person to consume food, liquid, alcohol, drugs, or other substances;
- causing, coercing, or otherwise inducing another person to perform sexual acts;
- any activity that places another person in reasonable fear of bodily harm through the use of threatening words or conduct;
- any activity against another person that includes a criminal violation of local, state, tribal, or federal law; and
- any activity that induces, causes, or requires another person to perform a duty or task that involves a criminal violation of local, state, tribal, or federal law
Mandatory Reporting
All faculty, staff, students, and affiliated individuals at Gordon State College are required to report any knowledge or suspicion of hazing immediately.

Failure to report hazing may result in disciplinary action and/or legal penalties under Georgia law.
Disclosure of Hazing Incidents
To comply with state requirements, Gordon State College will publicly disclose any confirmed hazing incidents involving student organizations. These disclosures will:

Be published on the College’s website;

Include the name of the organization, date of the incident, a general description of the violation, and resulting sanctions;

Remain posted for a minimum of five years.

Protection Against Retaliation
Individuals who report hazing in good faith are protected from retaliation under college policy and Georgia law. Retaliation against reporters is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary or legal action.
