Do I need to attend orientation?

Yes, but Dual Enrollment students attend a Dual Enrollment Orientation, not GSC's regular New Student Orientation.

Do not register for, attend, or pay for a regular New Student Orientation. Those sessions are designed for students entering GSC after completing high school.

How much does Dual Enrollment cost?

For eligible students, Georgia's Dual Enrollment program provides funding for up to 30 semester credit hours of approved coursework.

Students should keep in mind:

  • Funding applies only to approved Dual Enrollment courses.
  • Courses outside the approved funding list or courses taken after reaching the funding limit may require the student to pay out of pocket.
  • Certain course-related expenses, including some science laboratory fees, lab manuals, consumable supplies, or other materials, may be the student's responsibility.

Students should review their account and course requirements carefully so they understand any charges not covered by Dual Enrollment funding.

I see a balance on my GSC account. Should I be concerned?

Not necessarily. There may be a delay between course registration and the application of Dual Enrollment funding to your student account.

If your required funding information has been completed and approved, allow time for the funding to be processed.

Are my textbooks and course materials covered?

Required textbooks are provided for Dual Enrollment courses. Students are responsible for taking care of any physical textbooks provided to them and returning them in good condition at the end of the semester.

For courses using electronic resources:

  • Required electronic course materials and access codes will be provided.
  • Required Respondus testing fees are also covered.

Some courses may require additional consumable supplies, laboratory materials, or other items that are not covered by Dual Enrollment funding.

Do I need a GSC student ID and parking permit?

Yes. Dual Enrollment students should obtain a Gordon State College student ID.

Students who will park a vehicle on campus must also obtain a parking permit. A parking permit is required to park on campus.

Both your student ID and parking permit can be obtained through GSC Public Safety, located near the athletic fields.

When obtaining a parking permit, be prepared to provide information about your vehicle, including your license plate number, make, model, and color.

What is the best way to communicate with my professors?

Email is generally the best way to communicate with your professors. Students should use their official Gordon State College email account when communicating about college business.

Keep these expectations in mind:

  • Allow professors approximately 24 hours to respond to email during the week.
  • Faculty may take longer to respond on weekends, holidays, or college breaks.
  • Office hours are a great opportunity to meet with professors and ask questions.
  • You may also call a professor's campus office, although reaching faculty by phone can sometimes be more difficult because of their teaching schedules.

Remember that communicating directly and professionally with your professors is an important part of being a college student.

How will my high school receive my college grades?

Gordon State College will send transcripts to your home institution after the end of the semester.

Official final grades will not be available before the grade publication dates established on the GSC Academic Calendar. Students and families should keep this timing in mind when high schools are requesting final grades or transcripts.

Do GSC classes follow my high school's calendar?

No. Dual Enrollment courses follow the Gordon State College Academic Calendar, which may be different from your high school or school district calendar.

For example, your high school may be closed for a holiday or Spring Break while GSC classes remain in session. You are still responsible for:

  • Attending class
  • Completing assignments
  • Taking scheduled exams
  • Meeting course deadlines

Always use the GSC Academic Calendar and your individual course syllabi when planning for your college courses.

What happens if I have a question about a grade, assignment, or attendance?

Questions about a specific course should generally begin with your professor.

Your course syllabus establishes important policies related to:

  • Attendance
  • Assignments
  • Exams
  • Grading
  • Deadlines
  • Participation
  • Instructor communication

Dual Enrollment students are held to the same academic expectations as other students enrolled in the course.

Are Dual Enrollment courses separate from regular college classes?

Usually, no. Dual Enrollment students are generally enrolled in regular Gordon State College courses alongside non-DE college students.

Courses offered at specific off-site locations, such as a high school or Dual Enrollment center, may be designated specifically for Dual Enrollment students.

Regardless of location, Dual Enrollment courses are college-level courses with college-level academic expectations.

Can I take any GSC course I want?

Not necessarily. Students must meet the eligibility, placement, and prerequisite requirements for individual courses.

Some courses are available to most eligible 11th- and 12th-grade Dual Enrollment students, while others require specific high school coursework, GPA requirements, or completion of another college course.

For example, English and mathematics courses frequently have specific placement or prerequisite requirements.

How do I know which courses I should take?

Your course choices should be based on both your high school graduation requirements and your future college plans.

What should I do if a course I want appears to be full?

Request the course anyway.

Even if a course appears full when you search the GSC schedule, include it on your Dual Enrollment Course Request Form. Submitting the request allows the Dual Enrollment team to review available options and determine whether the request can be accommodated.

The earlier you request your courses, the more opportunity we have to help you find an appropriate schedule.

Do I need to wait until I'm admitted before requesting courses?

No. You should request your courses as early as possible, even if your GSC admission application is still being processed.

Early course requests give GSC more time to plan for Dual Enrollment demand and improve the likelihood that appropriate course options will be available.

How long does it take to be registered after I request courses?

After a course request is submitted, the requestor—typically a high school counselor or homeschool parent—will receive an automated confirmation.

That automated email confirms that the request was received; it does not mean the student has been registered.

Please allow approximately 1–2 weeks for processing and registration confirmation. Processing may take longer during high-volume registration periods.

Do I need to complete the GAfutures Dual Enrollment Funding Application every year?

Students should complete the required GAfutures Dual Enrollment Funding Application for the applicable academic year and make sure all required funding steps are completed.

Because the funding process may require information about Georgia residency and a parent or guardian, we recommend that students and parents/guardians complete the application together.

What do I need to do if I'm returning for another semester?

Dual Enrollment students should begin planning for the next semester early.

Before each upcoming term:

  • Talk with your high school counselor about graduation requirements and your high school schedule.
  • Review the courses you have already completed.
  • Consider your future college major or degree pathway.
  • Submit your next Dual Enrollment course requests as early as possible.
  • Complete any required GAfutures funding steps for the applicable academic year.
  • Monitor your GSC email for registration and Dual Enrollment information.

Early planning provides the best opportunity to build the schedule you need.

Where should I look for important GSC information?

Your Gordon State College email should be one of the first places you check.

GSC uses student email to communicate important information about:

  • Courses and registration

  • Financial aid and funding
  • Academic requirements
  • College deadlines
  • Student services

Check your GSC email regularly. Once you become a GSC student, it is your primary college email account and an important part of staying informed.
