New Student Orientation
What is New Student Orientation?
This is your time to see our campus as well as meet some of our faculty and staff. You can think of it as your first day as a Highlander! New Student Orientation or NSO is mandatory for all new incoming students because we are committed to ensuring that you have all the resources you need to have a successful first semester here at Gordon. If you are a new, first-year student, you must attend an NSO before you can be enrolled in Spring 2019 classes.
How do I sign up to come to a New Student Orientation?
Click here to sign up for a New Student Orientation! You must be fully accepted to Gordon State in order to attend an orientation! Need to check your application status before you register for NSO? Check your application status here.
Please note that you MUST register for an NSO in order to participate. Our goal is to create the best possible NSO experience for our incoming students, and to be able to do that, we need to know who will be attending. So, sorry—no walk-ins allowed.
What can I expect at New Student Orientation?
Tours, games, interaction with current and other new Gordon students, interaction with faculty and staff, and more! Once you arrive on campus, you will meet your Gordon Orientation Leader (who is also a Gordon student). He/she will be your guide for the day. Along with other new Gordon students, you will participate in a variety of sessions designed to prepare you for campus life and academic success here at Gordon State!
Perhaps the most important part of NSO day is a series of academic advising and information sessions. At the end of the day, we will gather information from you and use it to make your first-year schedule, which you will be able to access on your Banner Web page at the end of the day. Students who do not attend an NSO will not be given a schedule.
When is New Student Orientation?
New Student Orientations will be held on the dates listed below. It is an all-day event, with check-in beginning at 8:00 and activities ending around 4:15. New Gordon State Highlanders will be provided lunch at Highlander Hall, our excellent dining facility! All other guests must pay for lunch (it’s a very reasonable price, and the food is delicious). Please note that you must arrive on time in order to meet your student orientation leader. Students who arrive after orientation activities begin will not be allowed to participate.
