Gordon State College Signs Partnership With Lamar County High School

Gordon State College and Lamar County High School entered into an articulation agreement on May 2, 2022 in which eligible dual enrollment students may gain admission to the GSC Bachelor of Science in nursing degree program after certain requirements are met and completed.
Up to five Lamar County High School dual enrollment students who are admitted to GSC will be aware of what core courses they must take, when they need to take these courses and what GPA they must maintain in order to assure admission into the GSC Department of Nursing degree program. Each of the five students will be given two curricula options and provided a detailed plan for completion of the core requirements.
“This agreement strengthens our partnership with Lamar County High School and our dedication to providing more opportunities to the students who attend LCHS. I am excited about the pathway that is being created for students who are passionate about becoming nurses,” said GSC Assistant Vice President of Innovative Education, Dr. Ric Calhoun. “I am also hopeful that a partnership like this can help to impact the needs being felt in the healthcare industry in our region and our state.”
To be eligible to pursue the pathway to admittance into the GSC Bachelor of Science in nursing degree program, Lamar County High School dual enrollment students must meet certain criteria including, but not limited to, the completion of at least one LCHS Healthcare Pathway Course, submission of a Letter of Intent to participate in the program no later than the first week of September of their high school junior year, a math and science GPA of 3.0 or above after all required core courses are completed and the completion of a nursing application and a nursing admission test during the department of nursing degree program application period.

This empowers students to take advantage of this invaluable resource that allows them to acquire desired credentials through a seamless process," said GSC President, Dr. Kirk A. Nooks. “We are acutely aware of the nursing shortage, and we are committed to doing our part to fill this need within our region."
The Lamar County High School dual enrollment student’s cumulative math and science GPA will be recalculated by the GSC dual enrollment coordinator and/or advisor at the end of each term to assure that the student continues to meet admission criteria.
