Gordon State College To Host Second Legacy Lecture

Gordon State College is honored to host its second Legacy Lecture on Sunday, February 21 with featured guest speaker Calvin Smyre, a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from the 135th district in Columbus, Ga.

This special event begins at 6:30 p.m. and is being hosted by GSC to bring the community and campus together for an evening of music, reflection and leaving a lasting legacy.

Known as the Dean of the House at the State Capitol in Atlanta, Smyre is the longest serving member of the Georgia Legislature after be sworn into office on January 13, 1975. Rep. Smyre (D) was born in Chattahoochee County, Ga., and graduated from Fort Valley State College in 1970.

The institution became Fort Valley State University in 1996.

A limited number of GSC students who are members of a club or organization on campus will be able to attend in-person while practicing social distancing at the Student Activity and Recreation Center on the GSC campus.
