Gordon State Set To Kick Off Inaugural Club Football Season

Gordon State College will kick off its inaugural club football season in the spring of 2021 as the Highlanders take the field in a six-game schedule, including in-state schools Columbus State University and Middle Georgia State University.

GSC will open the 2021 spring season at Middle Georgia State for a Saturday, March 6 contest at 7 p.m., which will be followed by the Highlanders’ first home game in a March 13 showdown with Columbus State at 7 p.m.

All home games will be played at Lamar County High School’s Trojan Field in Barnesville.

GSC hits the road for a pair of games as the Highlanders travel to the University of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) on March 20 for a 3 p.m. contest and a March 27 rematch with Columbus State at 4 p.m.

GSC closes out the 2021 spring season with two home games featuring Middle Georgia State for Homecoming on April 3 at 7 p.m. and Ramah Juco Academy (S.C.) on April 10 at 7 p.m.

“I am very excited for the official kickoff of club football this spring,” said Dr. Matthew Robison, Dean of Students at GSC. “I know our student-athletes, under the leadership of head coach Calvin Adams, can’t wait to represent Highlander nation on the field and play ball. I look forward to joining all members of the GSC family in the stands as we cheer on the team…Highlanders Forward!”

GSC will begin preseason practice under the direction of interim head coach Calvin Adams.

“After speaking with all the players and coaches, I can say that we are all beyond excited to begin this new chapter of club football here at Gordon State College,” Adams said. “The players and coaches are committed to the program and we look forward to putting on a show for all that come to watch us play this spring.”

Adams will be joined on the staff by volunteer assistant coaches Christian Lane (offensive coordinator), Chadston Few (defensive coordinator) and Rodnique Brown (assistant defensive coordinator).

The Highlanders’ roster features 25 student-athletes who will start preseason practice as spring semester classes begin at GSC on January 25.

Additional preseason releases featuring the intercollegiate softball, baseball, men’s basketball and women’s soccer teams will be featured in the coming weeks.
