Gordon State Ranked No. 9 Among Top Public Schools
Gordon State College is ranked No. 9 among Top Public Schools in the Regional Colleges South category, according to the latest edition of the U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges list.
The rankings, which were released Monday, reveal the top colleges in the country for 2020.
The same report ranked Gordon State College no. 44 of 124 schools in the overall Best Regional Colleges South category.
“We have been working on several tasks, initiatives and projects aimed to strengthen and prepare the institution,” said GSC President Kirk A. Nooks. “I am thrilled to see our team recognized for such categories. We have an incredible group of faculty and staff here who understand where we are now and where we plan to go next. Gordon is poised to make great progress over the next year.”
According to the report, regional colleges focus on undergraduate education but grant fewer than half of their degrees in liberal arts disciplines; this category also includes schools that have small bachelor's degree programs but primarily award two-year associate degrees.

The US News Best Colleges Rankings are one of the indicators that we use to make sure we are on track. It is encouraging to see that our peers are recognizing our work as we strive to make Gordon State College the best access college in the state of Georgia.”
In determining the rankings, U.S. News and World Report followed the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education's Basic Classification system. The Carnegie categories are the accepted standard in U.S. higher education.
