Gordon State College Dean of Students Dr. Matthew Robison received the Georgia College Personnel Association’s (GCPA) Theodore K. Miller Outstanding Professional Service Award this week. The award, named for the association’s former President Dr. Theodore K. Miller, is presented to a GCPA member or
professional in the state who has more than six years of professional student affairs service and has demonstrated service to GCPA, American College Personnel Association (ACPLA), and to the profession of Student Affairs through teaching, counseling, administration, research, publication, and involvement in state, regional and national activities.
Robinson was awarded at the annual state conference at Valdosta State University on October 24 and 25.
“I am both excited and very humbled to receive the Theodore K. Miller Outstanding Professional Service award from the GCPA,” said Robison. “GCPA and its parent organization the ACPLA have been my professional development homes for the past twenty years. To be honored by this organization with an award whose name sake, Dr. Theodore K. Miller, is a legend in the field of Student Affairs is extremely humbling.”
GCPA’s mission, according to their website, is to enhance the higher education community through advocacy and support for the holistic development of students. Goals for the organization include providing an inclusive environment for the critical engagement of ideas and practices that serve students and colleagues, striving to create a sustainable organization through professional collaborations, resources, and the utilization of technologies and fostering opportunities for professional growth of student affairs educators and administrators.
Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, Dr. John D. Head said, “We are proud of Matthew and his receiving of this award. Matthew has been a member of ACPA for over 19 years, and has been a member of GCPA for nearly as long. His commitment to the profession of Student Affairs has made him a distinguished professional here in Georgia and across the country. He is committed to the development of our students and has made quite an impact here at Gordon State College in a relatively short amount of time. We are so proud that he decided to become a part of Highlander Nation!”
