Gordon Class of ’66 Presents Scholarship

The Gordon Military High School Class of ’66 wanted their Golden Reunion to be very special.
“We wanted to contribute to Gordon, leave a legacy from the military era that benefits a student today,” said Tommy Torbert, class of ’66 member. “We worked to create a scholarship that will help a student who might not otherwise be able to attend Gordon.”
During Alumni Weekend class members presented the Gordon Military Legacy Scholarship to Jared Benefield, a senior at Lamar County High School and a member of AJROTC for 4 years. He was joined by his AJROTC Commander, Maj. Paul Stinson, himself a Gordon alumnus, class of ’81.
Benefield said he was “deeply honored and so happy to receive the scholarship.” He plans to study nursing at Gordon State College.
