The Gordon State College Theatre is hosting auditions for its next play HONKY.

The auditions are open to students, faculty and the community and will be held on February 16 and 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the stage of the Gordon State College Fine Arts Theatre.

Those who audition must present cold readings from the script. Assistant Professor of Theatre Lisa Cesnik Ferguson will be directing.

This modern play is a dark comedy with very strong language and adult themes.

"Some of the things that characters say are disturbing to hear, but they are disturbing with a purpose, and the comedy makes it palatable," said Ferguson. "It is a wonderful play, and we hope it will instigate much discussion in both rehearsal and performance."

HONKY will be performed April 6-9 at 7:30 p.m. and April 10, 2 p.m.

The plot centers on a young African American who is shot for a pair of basketball shoes and sales triple among white teens. Are ghetto-glorifying commercials to blame, or is it the white CEO that only sees dollar signs? Luckily, there's a new pill on the market guaranteed to cure racism.

Honky is a darkly comedic look at five people, white and black, as they navigate the murky waters of race, rhetoric and basketball shoes.

The play is rated R due to strong language and adult themes.?
