Human Services Majors Attend Conference
Gordon State College students and professors recently attended the 2014 Georgia Sociological Association conference held this year this year at Saint Simons Island.
"As a board member and the current secretary-treasurer for the GSA, I am pleased that Gordon State students were able to take advantage of the opportunity to attend a motivational conference and to extend their understanding of sociology," said Christy Flatt, assistant professor of sociology. "The students were exposed to the scientific principles, research, and application of sociological concepts presented by graduate students and professional faculty from schools across the state of Georgia. It was an invaluable weekend for all involved."
Students who attended the conference saw it as an "educational experience."
"I was able to see how sociological concepts can be applied to different disciplines," said Daniel Brackett, who will graduate with a degree in human services in 2015.
During the conference members of the GSA presented papers on topics ranging from the study of criminology to the effects of political inequality on voting. Several University System of Georgia schools were represented at the conference.
