AAMI Members Tutor in Community Center
Members of the Gordon State College African American Male Initiative are tutoring middle grade students at the EP Roberts Center two days a week.
"I am learning as much from the younger students as I hope they are learning from my tutoring help," said GSC sophomore Jacob Tucker. "It is also a good opportunity to give back to the community."
This is Tucker's second year with the AAMI, a program designed to help improve the retention, progression and graduation rates of African-American and Latino male students by providing academic, personal, social and cultural development. The core components of the program include leadership training, student advisement and community service.
Tavion Pugh, who is involved in the after school program at the center, gives Tucker "two thumbs up."
"I like him helping me," Pugh said. "He is helping me to get my homework done."
