He replaces Izzy Ingle who has accepted a job as head basketball coach at Timpanogos High School in Orem, Utah.

Sherman has been at Gordon State since 2012 serving as assistant coach to the men's team and assistant professor of physical education.

He came to Gordon from Alleghany College of Maryland where he served as head women's basketball coach for four years and assistant men's basketball coach for five years. The Cumberland, Maryland native attended Frostburg State University where he earned his undergraduate degree in health and physical education and a master's degree in administrative supervision.

"I am excited about the opportunity to serve as head coach," Sherman said. "We are working on developing a strong team and welcoming new Highlanders to the court."

The team will begin conditioning once members return to school in August. The season schedule is not yet set.

Ingle, who was tasked with rebuilding the men's basketball program when he was hired in 2007, said leaving Gordon is bittersweet.

"I'm proud of what we've accomplished in the last seven years and know the program is in good hands," Ingle said.

While at Alleghany, Sherman was named Maryland JUCO Coach of the Year on two different occasions and earned Region XX Coach of the Year honors twice. During the 2010-11 season, the team set a school record with 30 wins and capped off the year with a 6th place finish at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
