Hightower Library Renovation Plans Announced
Gordon State College's Hightower Library will be improved and enhanced in time for the 2015 academic year, President Max Burns told those attending the annual Faculty-Staff reception Friday.
The $4.9 million renovation - $4.4 million in state funds and $500,000 in institutional funding - is slated to begin July 1 with actual construction to begin a short time later.
The Hightower Library was built in 1978 and was named in 1986 for Dorothy Watson Hightower who served, with her husband, George Sr., on the Gordon Foundation Board.
The library contains 35,000 square feet and houses approximately 94,000 books, 30,000 electronic books, audio-visual materials as well as maps, charts, and archived materials.
