Proctoring Options for Online Courses
Most Gordon State College online courses will require a proctored examination. In a proctored exam, someone monitors the student as he/she completes the exam. Gordon State has two options for proctoring exams. One option allows for the electronic use of monitoring. The other involves live monitoring via a testing center.
Since Gordon State College does not charge an e-tuition, students are required to pay for the proctoring service (for either option). The price often depends on the length of the exam.
Option 1: Live Proctoring
Note: ProctorU Live+ cannot be used with a chromebook. Students must use a desktop or laptop (no mobile devices).
ProctorU Live+
ProctorU Live+ is an electronic proctoring system that allows students to complete their exams from any location. A proctor joins the student in the online environment and is live with the student as he/she completes the exam. In order to use ProctorU, the student will need:
- desktop or laptop computer (tablets, chromebooks, smartphones are not sufficient)
- webcam
- speakers
- internet access
Testing Centers
Students have the ability to complete their proctored exam in a testing center. Gordon State College has a testing center on the second floor of the Student Center. Other campuses also have testing centers or provide proctoring services.
The process for using a testing center is:
- The student researches and locates the testing center he/she would like to utilize. The student should contact the testing center to discuss related fees and the scheduling process.
- The student completes the Gordon State College Proctoring Request form. The form is located below in a PDF. Note: Students do not have to complete the proctoring request form if they are using the Gordon State College testing center. The Gordon State College testing center is already approved. The student will need to tell the professor that he/she is planning on using the Gordon State College testing center, however. The instructor will then need to complete only the Testing Specifications Form (located below).
- Gordon State College Proctoring Request Form (pdf) After clicking on the form, choose the download (arrow) button in the top right corner of the screen. This will open the fillable pdf. After completing the form, save it to your computer to send to the proctor.
- After completing his/her portion, the student provides the testing center with the Gordon State Proctoring Request form. The proctor completes the form and sends it back to the student.
- The student sends the completed Gordon State College Proctoring Request form to the instructor.
- If the instructor approves the testing center, he/she will complete the Gordon State College Testing Specifications form and send it to the proctor. This form will provide the proctor with the details regarding the exam. The form is located below in a PDF.
- Gordon State College Testing Specifications Form (pdf) Since this is a faculty form only, faculty will be prompted to log in with their Gordon email username and password. After the form opens, choose the download (arrow) button in the top right corner of the screen. This will open the fillable pdf. After completing the form, save it to your computer to send to the proctor.
- Now that the testing center is approved, the student will communicate with the testing center to confirm an appointment and payment.
Option 2: Non-Live Proctoring
Note: Both of the Non-Live Proctoring options allow for the use of Chromebooks. Proctorio does require that the student have access to download extensions on either Chrome or Firefox browser.
Proctorio
Proctorio is a service that allows students to complete their D2L quiz while a recording is made of the session (this includes the screen and the webcam). The video is then reviewed by the Proctorio team and incidents are flagged for the instructor to review.
Remote Proctor Now (RPNow)
RPNow is a service that allows students to complete their D2L quiz. A recording is made of the quizzing session and areas of concern are flagged. The instructor can then review the videos of the recordings.
