The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Pre-licensure Program at Gordon State College is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career as registered nurses. Upon successful completion of the program, the unlicensed graduate is eligible to apply for licensure as a registered professional nurse after successfully passing the national licensure exam (NCLEX-RN). The mission of the Gordon State College nursing program is to educate professional nurses who are able to provide competent, quality, and holistic care that meets individual, family and community needs in a rapidly changing healthcare environment. The nursing program prepares the student for the challenges of this evolving environment through classroom, clinical, and simulation experiences.

Applicants to the program must have a formal letter of acceptance from Gordon State College or already be attending the College. Applications to the BSN Pre-Licensure Program will be available online during the designated application period. Information is posted on the website for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Application packets may be hand delivered or mailed to the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Gordon State College. Applications will not be accepted by email or fax. The application form and materials must be submitted by the deadline as one packet to be considered for admission.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Pre-Licensure Program is competitive and granted on a space available basis. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must:

  1. Be admitted to Gordon State College prior to the application deadline and submit a formal acceptance letter with the application or be a current student of the College
  2. Have an cumulative/overall GPA of at least 2.75
  3. Have a minimum cumulative/overall GPA of 3.0 in ALL required science and math courses
  4. Complete all prerequisite core curriculum course work with a grade of "C" or higher by the beginning of the BSN program
  5. Completion of Kaplan Admission Test with designated score
  6. Submit all required application materials as one packet including a signed and dated application and official copies of all college transcripts and a copy of the academic transcript from Gordon State College
  7. Completed NURS 2210K, 2211K, and 2250K within 5 years of expected admission semester
  8. Not failed two (2) or more nursing courses in any nursing program, including a LPN program (A grade of "D" is considered failing in a nursing program)
  9. Not failed any nursing course with a grade of "F" in any unsuccessful attempt in a nursing program, including LPN
  10. Ability to meet technical standards - See Gordon State College Nursing and Health Sciences Technical Standards, current pp. 212-216 in the catalog

Admission to the Nursing Program is selective and competitive. Applicants are ranked from highest to lowest and the applicants with the strongest credentials will be accepted first. A student must receive a letter of acceptance from the Nursing Program to be admitted for classes. There is NO WAITING LIST for the Nursing Program. Applicants who are not accepted must reapply during the next application period. The Nursing Program reserves the right to end the application period once enough qualified applications have been received.

Graduation Requirements

  1. Completion of the University System of Georgia Core Curriculum (including history and constitution requirements)
  2. Successful completion of nursing courses with a minimum grade of 75%
  3. Successful completion of 120-124 total semester hours which includes:
    • 64 semester hours USG core curriculum, including four hours from Area G
    • 60 hours of upper division nursing credit

Nursing Program Accreditation and Approval

The Gordon State College Pre-Licensure BSN Nursing Program has initial approval by the Georgia Board of Nursing. Accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in pending approval.
