Humanities and Fine and Performing Arts

Course Program of Study

Stay on track to Graduation by taking courses that count toward your degree! If you are registered for Summer, check Degree Works  for classes that don't count toward your program of study. Click HERECourse Program of Study for more information about CPOS!

The Humanities and Fine & Performing Arts will prepare you for critical engagement and compassionate leadership.

Courses in English composition, communication, and foreign languages will help you gain precision in oral and written communications; courses in literature and philosophy will broaden critical thinking and empathic skills; and courses in art, music, and theatre will expand your creativity and compassion. All of these skills and abilities are sought by employers looking for strong communicators, creative leaders, innovative thinkers, and proactive problem solvers.

Importantly, majoring in one of the fields of Humanities and Fine & Performing Arts doesn’t just prepare you for a successful career. As Judith Shapiro, a former president of Bard College, once noted about the reason to major in the liberal arts, "You want the inside of your head to be an interesting place to spend the rest of your life." The Humanities and Fine & Performing Arts offer opportunities to explore what it means to be human and to live an interesting, passionate, and purpose-driven life.

Gordon State College offers baccalaureate degrees in English with tracks in Literature, Teaching Certification, Professional Communication, and Creative Writing. Our Interdisciplinary Studies baccalaureate degree allows you to customize your degree program by choosing from among the many academic fields offered by the college in addition to courses from the Georgia Film Academy.  Furthermore, our associate degree programs in Visual Arts and Theatre will give you the foundational skills and knowledge necessary for successful transfer into and completion of baccalaureate programs at any University System of Georgia school.
