The Gordon State College Undergraduate Research Symposium invites the submission of scholarly papers in all disciplines. Works of critical analysis, synthesis, evidence-based practice, original interpretation, and primary research all are welcome. Successful applicants will present their work at the college’s symposium in April before a gathering of fellow students and faculty (family is also welcome to attend). The symposium is a chance for students to share their intellectual efforts with the Gordon State College community, and present their accomplishments to a receptive and intellectually minded audience.
Submission Deadline: March 18, 2019 by 5pm EST
Full Papers are required by the submission deadline for the Education, Social Sciences, and Humanities (Poster and Oral Presentation)
Abstracts are required by the submission deadline for Mathematics and Natural Sciences, as well as, Nursing (Poster and Oral Presentations Presentation)
Guidelines for Submissions:
- Submissions must be scholarly works of critical analysis, synthesis, original interpretation, or primary research presented in an accepted format of the relevant discipline. Group research projects are eligible.
- Submissions must consist of work of which the majority was completed while enrolled at Gordon State College. Submissions do not have to have been submitted for a grade for any particular course.
- Work that has been presented previously at an outside conference is eligible as long as the prior presentation occurred within one year of the Gordon Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Oral Presentations:
Education, Social Sciences, and Humanities:
- There are no restrictions as to the length of the work submitted, but if accepted for the symposium, there will be a 15 min time limitation for the presentation of the work.
- The actual presentation does not have to be a verbatim reading of the hardcopy submission, but final approval of the presentation method is at the discretion of the organizing committee.
Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and Nursing
- Applicants must provide an abstract of their work in electronic format. The abstract is to include a title, names of all authors and their institutional affiliations, and a description of the study and findings. The body of the abstract is not to exceed 150 words.
Poster Presentations:
- Poster presentations should fit within an area 36 inches high by 48 inches wide.
- The format should be the one appropriate to the discipline. Please speak with your faculty mentor about this in detail.
Education, Social Sciences, and Humanities:
- Applicants must provide an abstract of their work in electronic format. The abstract is to include a title and a description of the research and findings. The body of the abstract is not to exceed 150 words.
- Work should be easily presented in a poster format.
Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and Nursing
- Applicants must provide an abstract of their work in electronic format. The abstract is to include a title, names of all authors and their institutional affiliations, and a description of the study and findings. The body of the abstract is not to exceed 150 words.
