Advising for Nursing and Health Sciences
The School of Nursing and Health Sciences provides advisement to students who have completed their learning support requirements and have declared a major in Health Information Management, Nursing, and Pre-Nursing. New students – either freshmen or transfer – are normally advised for their first semester at Gordon State College in the Group Advisement and Registration sessions of New Student Orientation. New students in their first semester as well as continuing students newly declaring a major in one of the division's disciplines will be assigned an advisor shortly after the start of the semester. During the first half of the semester, the student should meet with his or her advisor to discuss a plan of study for completion of the associates degree. In subsequent semester, students should meet with their advisors to discuss any changes in their planned curriculum as well as plans for baccalaureate studies. No student can be unlocked to register for classes without an initial planning meeting with an advisor. Advisors' office hours, email addresses, and phone numbers are posted on their office door and the Faculty Webpage at the beginning of each semester. To maximize the availability of classes, students should meet with their advisors as early as possible.Prior to initially meeting with an advisor, students are expected to explore the material available on the major advising page and to print out and carefully review an advisement worksheet. After meeting with their advisors, students should be sure to save their worksheet for planning future semesters.
NOTE: RN-BSN advisement is done by RN-BSN faculty. Call 678.359.5252 for an appointment.
