Recital Series Continues Thursday

03-23-2016

Gordon State College will host its final Dinner and a Show event of the academic year on Thursday, March 24.

For $25 per person, guests will enjoy a three-course dinner prepared by Chef William Littiken in the Highlander Dining Hall at 6 p.m. followed by a performance by the internationally renowned clarinetist Alexey Gorokholinsky in the Fine Arts Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

For those who wish to attend the concert only, tickets are available at the door and are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and $5 for students.

Noted for the intensity and virtuosity of his playing, Alexey Gorokholinsky is considered one of music’s most versatile clarinetists, an artist who constantly challenges the possibilities and pushes the boundaries of his instrument and beyond. He has performed most of the standard solo clarinet repertoire, made and recorded numerous arrangements, and is now creating new works for clarinet and mainstream electronics for new generations.

A native of Russia, Gorokholinsky began his musical studies at age 5 on the piano. At age 7, he took up the clarinet, studying with his father, Valery Gorokholinsky, an accomplished orchestral and solo clarinetist.

Gorokholinsky appears regularly as a soloist and chamber musician in the New York City area. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School.

The menu for the evening’s meal will feature a three-course prix-fixe meal of classic Thai dishes, including choices among Chicken Satay, Pho Noodle Soup, Bangkok Beef, Fried Fish, Shrimp Pad Thai, Jasmine Rice, Ginger Soy Vegetables, Mango Clouds, and Green Tea & Mint Custard.

Reservations are required and may be made by calling 678-359-5052.  Dinner seating will extend from 5 p.m. through 6 p.m.  Due to time constraints, no one will be seated after 6 p.m.  A shuttle service will be available between the Fine Arts Auditorium parking lot and Highlander Dining Hall both before and after the meal.
