GSC Theatre Production of Antigone Opens Wednesday

11-03-2017

The Gordon State College Theatre is presenting Antigone a play by Sophocles that while ancient, carries a theme that continues to be relevant today.

Antigone, adapted for the stage by Jean Anouilh, explores struggles of honor, social consciousness and law versus morality.

Assistant Professor of Theater Lisa Ferguson noted that the play was selected because even though it was written 2,500 years ago, it remains an “amazing story about a young woman who takes a chance on doing the right thing even though a tyrant is in charge.”

“We also work hard to choose plays that will appeal to our students as well as students in area high schools,” she said. “We will have nearly 1,000 students visit our campus to see performances.”

Cast members include Rae Malley, Jacob Ribiera, Alec Moon, Alvin Stephens, Abbie Caouette, Ashley Cannon, LaTrez Anderson, Chase Gunnels, Slina Abbot, Nate Rogers, Shannon Krenek, Joba Duke, Chris Walker, Donovan Dickinson, L. McKenna Henson and Caleb Johnson.

Performances are Nov. 8-11 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door of the Gordon State College Fine Arts Theatre and are $10 for adults, $5 for youth.
