Health Information Management classes are taught in state-of the art facilities by highly qualified professors. The Gordon State College Health Information Management program is designed to prepare the graduate with the skills necessary for work in a variety of settings.

Course Waivers and Equivalencies

Students who are interested in receiving a baccalaureate degree in Health Information Management must complete all required core education courses, including Georgia state and institutional requirements. Students must have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours.

  • HISA 2000 – if applicant is a Registered Nurse with a current nursing license and has worked as a nurse within the past year, the HIM2000 course will be waived. If an applicant holds the AHIMA credential of RHIT, the HIM 2000 course will be waived.
  • HIM 3230 – If the applicant holds the credential of RHIT through AHIMA, this course will be waived.
  • HIM 3000 –If an applicant holds the AHIMA credential of RHIT, the HIM 3000 course will be waived.
  • HIM 3030 – if applicant is a Registered Nurse with a current nursing license and has worked as a nurse within the past year, the HIM 3030 course will be waived.
  • HISA 3410 – Credit for this class will be given to students who hold the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential from the American Health Information Management Association or hold the RHIT credential and have been employed as an inpatient or outpatient coder for a minimum of one year within the last three years.
  • HIM 3420 – Credit for this class will be given to students who hold the Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P) credential from the American Health Information Management Association or the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders or holds the RHIT or CCA credential and has been employed as an outpatient coder for a minimum of one year within the last three years.
  • HIM 4020 – Credit for this class will be given to students who hold the Certified Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) credential from the American Health Information Management Association.
