December Commencement Information
This semester’s ceremony will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in the Student Activity and Recreation Center (SARC), located on our main campus at 419 College Drive, Barnesville, GA 30204. The ceremony will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.
NO BALLOONS, POSTERS, AIR HORNS OR OTHER PARTY MATERIAL WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE CEREMONY AREA.
Graduation will be held at 9:00 a.m. in the SARC. Every graduate will receive tickets for guest admittance. Graduates are responsible for distributing tickets to guests before the Commencement.
- If you do not need all of the tickets that have been given to you, please return them to Academic Affairs in Lambdin Hall, room 340 or mail them to GSC Academic Affairs, 419 College Drive, Barnesville, GA 30204 by Friday, November 24.
- If you need more tickets than originally issued to you, please contact Laura Shadrick by email at firstname.lastname@example.org between November 27-29. You will receive a response from her informing you whether or not your request has been approved and how to get your additional tickets.
- There will be a handicapped accessible seating area reserved for guests in wheelchairs as well as those who are unable to climb stairs. Special tickets are required to enter this area. If any of your guests require handicapped seating, please contact Laura Shadrick by email to request the tickets for this area.
Our Commencement speaker for Fall 2017 will be Dr. Don Butts, Former Professor of History at Gordon State College.
Dr. Butts earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Davidson College before obtaining his M.A. and a Ph.D. in History from Duke University in 1978.He began working for Gordon Junior College in 1979 and served 38 years at Gordon State College before retiring in May of 2017. He remembers the college when the landscape was quite different (many buildings were missing) and has served in just about every position available on GSC's faculty committees.
He and his wife, Nancy, have one son, Evan.
Apply to Graduate
Any student who plans to graduate from Gordon State College is required to complete the Online Graduation Application process in Banner Web (link found in bottom footer of this page). Step by step instructions for the Online Graduation Application process can be accessed here. All applications will be reviewed by the Gordon State College Registrar’s Office to insure that all requirements for graduation are or will be satisfied by the anticipated date of graduation.
Students must submit their Online Graduation Applications no later than the official mid-term date of the semester prior to the anticipated semester of graduation. A student who plans to graduate at the end of the Fall Semester, for example, is required to submit an online application for graduation no later than the mid-term date of the previous Summer Semester.
Register to Walk
If you plan to walk in the December 8 procession, you must login to the Graduation Ceremony Registration System to verify whether or not you will be participating in the Fall semester graduation ceremony. Here you will also verify how your name should appear on your diploma and on the graduation program.

Please tell us about your experience with your program of study and your most recent (program) Academic Advisor at Gordon. The survey will be emailed to eligible graduates during the weeks before graduation.
