Criminal Justice for GDC
Criminal Justice Associate Degree Options for Georgia Corrections Employees
Gordon State College provides high quality education at the best price in Georgia. GSC is just minutes from the officer training center in Forsyth. Active GDC officers who meet the minimum GSC requirements with no Learning Support requirements (see Learning Support link below) can join a cohort of other officers in classes selected just for them which will allow them to finish their Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice within 2 years, without previous college experience. After completing the associate's degree, officers seeking a Bachelor of Science Degree can join cohorts of adult professionals working toward a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services with a concentration in Criminal Justice through online and weekend classes. Human Services is an umbrella degree that includes sociology, psychology, and management. Officers with credit from Columbus State’s Professional Management Program will find that most of these courses can be applied toward their bachelor’s degree.
Option 1: Contact the Department of Business and Public Service (678-359-5194) to be included in a cohort of GDC employees and be assured of a seat in courses offered every semester that will complete your degree in 2 years; including fall, spring and summer sessions. Officers will take 2 classes every 8 weeks which will allow them to complete 4 classes or 12 semester credit hours every semester. Look at the Criminal Justice Weekend College for GDC Officers Fact Sheet to see the rotation of these courses.
Option 2: Register for online or campus classes as you see fit and progress at your own pace. The majority of your Criminal Justice Associate Degree can be satisfied by classes currently offered online, however, you will be competing for space with all Gordon State College students.
