Beginning Freshmen

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma from an accredited high school. Graduation date must be included on transcript.
  • Freshman Index of at least 1830. Freshman Index is calculated as: (HS GPA x 500)+SATV+SATM or (HS GPAx500) + (ACT Composite x 42) + 88.
  • No more than 3 RHSC deficiencies
  • Minimum SAT CR of 330 and SAT M of 310 or ACT E of 12 and ACT M of 14.

  4. Official SAT or ACT Scores

Once the Admissions Office has received all paperwork an Admissions Rep will evaluate your file for Acceptance.

COMPASS Testing (Please read the following carefully!)

Students who score below 430 on the Critical Reading or Math sections of the SAT or below 17 English and 18 Math on the ACT will be required to take the COMPASS test. In order to be admitted to Gordon State College a student must make the following minimum scores:


In addition, a student must test out of at least one area. Exit scores are as follows:


A student who does not make minimum scores in all 3 areas and who does not exit from at least one area will not be admitted.

Provisional Acceptance

It is a common practice for colleges to evaluate students for acceptance while they are seniors in high school. In order to be considered for a Provisional Acceptance a student must follow these steps:

  1. Application for Admissions and $30 Fee
  2. Immunization Record
  3. Current High School transcript
  4. Official SAT or ACT Scores
  5. Satisfactory COMPASS test scores if necessary.

After the student has graduated they would send their final high school transcript to be evaluated in order to gain final acceptance into the college.
